Larry Kraft Announces Candidacy for Re-election in Minnesota House District 46A
St. Louis Park, MN. -- December 14, 2023 -- Larry Kraft, current State Representative for House District 46A - St. Louis Park, today announced he will seek re-election to the Minnesota House of Representatives in November, 2024.
During his first term, Kraft has been honored to bring issues important to St. Louis Park residents to the Capitol. He was proud to be part of historic legislation on education, reproductive freedom, 100 percent clean energy, democracy, transit, paid family leave, and more.
“There are three reasons I’d like to continue working in the Minnesota House: St. Louis Park, climate change, and young people,” adds Kraft. “I’m so fortunate to have the opportunity to represent St. Louis Park values and residents. And the main reason I entered politics is to take action on climate change; we’ve passed some transformative legislation, but there’s more to be done. Finally, for young people, we have a responsibility to enact policy that makes their lives better now – not to kick the can down the road to leave the most difficult issues for our children to deal with later.”
For the 2024 session, Kraft is drafting legislation on affordable housing, energy efficiency for buildings and homes, electrical grid infrastructure, climate-smart agriculture, plastics recycling and more.
Kraft’s platform aligns with the city of St. Louis Park’s strategic priorities: climate action and environmental stewardship; racial equity and inclusion; affordable housing; investing in and elevating youth; and community-centered public safety. He regards climate action and racial equity as lenses through which virtually all actions of government should be viewed.
In his first year, Kraft was the lead author on fourteen bills that became law, on issues including mental health, consumer protection, transportation, electric vehicle charging infrastructure, voter pre-registration for 16- and 17-year-olds, and his top legislative priority, climate change. As vice-chair of the Climate and Energy committee, he authored legislation to make buildings more energy efficient, decrease emissions from transportation, and bolster clean energy entrepreneurship.
He also co-authored bills in key areas such as LGBTQ rights, early childhood education, gun violence prevention, environmental justice, and health care.
“Good policy begins with listening, and understanding people’s priorities and lived experiences,” said Kraft. “Together we accomplished so much that will grow the middle class and make Minnesota the best place to live, work and raise a family – I’m excited to continue that work.”
In addition to his work in the Minnesota House, Kraft has served on St. Louis Park’s city council and has both business and non-profit executive experience. He and his family have lived in St. Louis Park for over 20 years; one of his two children is in college and the other attends St. Louis Park High School.
